Fredrick II of Prussia marched west to counter the Allied invasion of Saxony and secured a decisive victory at Rossbach, southwest of Leipzig. Supported by cavalry General Friedrich von Seydlitz, Frederick routed Austrian Prince Joseph of Saxe-Hildburghausen and the French of Duke Charles of Soubise, then hastened east to meet another Austrian army at Leuthen.
