With England and France at war in Europe, 1,500 pro-British Iroquois crossed Lake St Louis and attacked Lachine, just west of Montreal, where they killed 24, burned most of the houses and took prisoners, many later killed. reinforcements under Lieutenant de Rabeyre approaching to support nearby Fort Roland were intercepted and destroyed. The Indians then withdrew.
