Frederick II of Prussia withdrew west from Prague, leaving General Friedrich von Seydlitz with just 1,900 dragoons to resist Austrian Prince Joseph of Saxe-Hildburghausen and French Duke Charles of Soubise. A comicopera coup at Gotha, near Erfurt, saw the Austro- French vanguard of 9,500 men routed. The Allied commanders lost again in November at Rossbach.
