Austrian Marshal Gideon von Loudon destroyed a Prussian force at Landshut in Silesia (23 June), then marched southeast to besiege the fortress town of Glatz (modern Klodzko, Poland), while Frederick II of Prussia tried to divert the Austrians by besieging Dresden. On the same day that von Loudon took Glatz by storm, Frederick left for Silesia to defend Liegnitz.
