On a long-range winter patrol west of Lake George, New York, Major Robert Rogers ambushed a small Indian force led by Oliver Morel de la Durantaye, west of Bald Mountain. He was then surprised by French marines and Canadian militia under Jean-Baptiste de de Langy. In battle on snowshoes, <i>"Rogers Rangers"</i> were routed with 125 killed and fled to Fort Edwards.
