Soon after Pathan tribesmen inspired by Mullah Sadullah were driven off from a siege at Malakand, further south and just 15 miles from Peshawar itself, a reported 5,000 Mohmand tribesmen from the west attacked the Border Police fort at Shabkadr. A column from Peshawar under Colonel (later Sir) John Woon dispersed the rebels with a flank attack by Bengal Lancers.
