In response to an English invasion, driven back at Piperdean (10 September), James I of Scotland took his army to besiege Roxburgh. After 15 days he was ignominiously driven off by Henry Percy Earl of Northumberland and was soon murdered by his own Barons. Coincidentally, the King’s son died 24 years later in another siege of the same border fortress.
