Richard II of England faced rebellion by Barons under his uncle Thomas Woodstock Duke of Gloucester and the King sent Robert de Vere Earl of Oxford to meet the rebels at Radcot Bridge, near Oxford. Supported by Richard Fitzalan Earl of Arundel, Thomas Mowbray Earl of Nottingham and Henry Bolingbroke (later Henry IV), Gloucester routed de Vere, who fled into exile.
