In a short-lived period of French authority at sea after victory at La Rochelle, Duke Louis of Anjou, Regent for Charles VI, sent his fleet on an ill-prepared invasion of England. Off Margate, Kent, the French-Castilian fleet was destroyed by English ships under Richard Fitzalan Earl of Arundel and Thomas Mowbray Earl of Nottingham, ending the threat of invasion.
