Five years after French forces recaptured Paris from the English, Thomas Lord Clifford seized Pontoise on the northwestern outskirts (June 1441). Despite reinforcements under Richard Duke of York and John Talbot Earl of Shrewsbury, the English were eventually driven out by Jean Bureau Master of Artillery. The battle was the last major action before a five-year truce in 1444.
