In response to Henry Percy Earl of Northumberland preparing for war against Scotland in violation of an existing truce, William Douglas Earl of Angus and Adam Hepburn were sent to Piperdean, near Cockburnspath, where they heavily defeated an English force under Sir Robert Ogle. In a further response to England’s invasion, James I then laid siege to Roxburgh.
