John III Sobieski of Poland destroyed the Turkish siege of Vienna and pursued his enemy to Parkany, near Esztergom, where he was initially repulsed. Two days later Charles V arrived with his cavalry and the Turks suffered a terrible defeat, with over 20,000 reported killed. Esztergom itself soon fell and Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa Pasha was later executed for failure.
