In response to Greek border incursions, Ottoman commander Edhem Pasha marched into Thessaly and in the east, sent forces through Analipsis towards Nezeros, where Colonel Louros and 1,200 Greeks defended Mount Annunciation and Marcasi Hill. While repeated assaults were repulsed, Crown Prince Constantine forbade an offensive action until the advance on Vigla.
