Two years after British forces secured the Kingdom of Chitral, Pathan tribesmen inspired by the Mullah Sadullah besieged the small garrison in the Malakand Pass (Colonel William Meiklejohn) and nearby Chadkara. A relief force under General Sir Bindon Blood drove off the rebels to secure the fortresses and, after action at Shabkadr, the campaign was virtually over.
