Frederick II of Prussia secured victory in Saxony at Rossbach, then marched east into Silesia to avenge the Prussian defeat at Breslau. At nearby Leuthen he met Prince Charles of Lorraine and Marshal Leopold von Daun. In his greatest tactical victory Frederick destroyed the Austrian army, inflicting over 6,000 casualties and taking 20,000 prisoners, then retook Breslau.
