Recovering from defeat at Sikandarabad in March, Marathas under Bhau Saheb captured Delhi then marched north against Afghan invader Ahmad Shah Durrani. In victory at Kunjpura, east of Karnal, the Marathas inflicted nearly 10,000 Afghan casualties, including Abusammad Khan killed and Qutb Shah executed. Within months the Afghans were victorious at Panipat.
