Moving to stem the Imperial threat from the Rhineland, French Marshal Francois de Crequi (who had taken over command in Germany after the death of Turenne at Sasbach) was defeated in August 1675 at Consarbruck. But at Kochersberg, northwest of Strasbourg, he destroyed a large army under Duke Charles of Lorraine and drove the defeated Germans back to the Rhine.
