Despite previous failure, Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa himself led 100,000 Turks and Tatars against Chigirin on the Dnieper, held by 80,000 Russians and Cossacks under Grigori Romodanovski and Ivan Samoilovych, and Scottish General Patrick Gordon. The city was stormed and burned but, three years later, the Turks withdrew from the Ukraine and made peace with Russia.
