General Sir Peregrine Hopson and Commodore John Moore regrouped after loss at Martinique and sailed to French Guadeloupe, where they landed after a heavy bombardment. However, the assault stalled through inertia and losses to disease, including Hopson himself. General John Barrington eventually took the island, which was returned to France after the war.
