On campaign against French West Africa, Britain captured Senegal, but was repulsed from nearby Gorée and sent a stronger force under Commodore Augustus Keppel and Colonel Richard Worge. The island fortress surrendered after a daylong bombardment, yielding 300 prisoners and almost 100 guns. At the end of the war, Gorée reverted to France.
