The Turko-Mongol Tamerlane marched into northern India, where he joined his troops who had captured Multan in October. He then advanced on the capital and, outside Delhi, he overwhelmed the army of Sultan Mahmud II Tugluk. After executing perhaps 50-80,000 prisoners, the Mongol conqueror sacked Delhi before turning north with his booty towards Meerut.
