When Marcus Carausius, Roman Tyrant of Britain, was murdered and deposed by his Chief Minister Allectus, Emperor Constantius and his Praetorian Prefect Asclepiodotus took a force to Britain. In battle near Silchester in Hampshire, Asclepiodotus killed Allectus and defeated his largely mercenary army to reestablish Imperial control.
