Rebelling over land grievances, the men of Kent marched on London led by Jack Cade, an Irish-born former soldier. South of the capital at Sevenoaks, the insurgents beat a heavily outnumbered Royalist army, killing commander Sir Humphrey Stafford. The rebels then entered the capital and were defeated at London Bridge. The rebellion soon collapsed with many leaders executed.
