With Mughal forces campaigning in central India, General Sharza Khan (later Rustum Khan) was marching to besiege Satara, south of Poona, when advance units led by his son Ghalib were attacked by Maratha Generals Santaji Ghorpade and Dhanaji Jadhav. When Sharza Khan advanced to his son’s aid, both were captured in a Mughal defeat which cost 1,500 men.
