Six weeks after the Canadian raid on Schenectady, New York, Governor Louis de Buade Comte de Frontenac sent a Canadian and Indian force under Joseph-Francois Hertel against Salmon Falls, near Rollinsford, New Hampshire. Having brutally destroyed the town, Hertel heavily defeated pursuing militia from nearby Portsmouth before withdrawing. He soon joined the attack on Fort Loyal.
