As England completed its conquest of northern France, John Duke of Bedford, Regent in France for Henry VI, defeated Arthur de Richemont, Constable of France, near the village of St James, south of Avranches on the Bay of St Michel. The defeat forced Richemont’s brother, Jean V Duke of Brittany, to submit to England.
