As they led a determined advance across the Danube into Serbia, King Ladislas of Hungary and General Janos Hunyadi met Kasim Bey, Governor of Rumelia and Ishak Bey near Nish. Aided by Serbian forces, the Christians crushed the Turkish army and captured Kasim. They seized Nish and Pirot then traversed the Balkans to sack Sofia before being checked at Zlatitsa.
