When Sir Patrick Hepburn of Hailes led Scottish horsemen raiding into Northumberland, he was defeated and killed on his return at Nesbit, near Berwick, by a large force under Henry Percy Earl of Northumberland and George Dunbar Earl of March. While only a minor action, Hepburn’s defeat led directly to a large-scale Scottish attack and disaster in September at Homildon Hill.
