On a fresh offensive south of Manila after victory in March at Imus, new Spanish Governor Fernando Primo de Rivera led a massive assault on Revolutionary leader Emilio Aguinaldo at Naic, southwest of Cavite. Following very heavy fighting, with costly rebel losses, Aguinaldo was forced to retreat northeast towards Montalban, where he made a stand in the mountains at Puray.
