Despite defeat at Bergen, Hesse (13 April) Prussians, Brunswickers and British led by Duke Ferdinand of Brunswick attacked French Marquis Louis de Contades near Minden, on the Weser southwest of Hanover. De Contades was badly defeated in hard fighting though he was able to withdraw when British Cavalry commander George Lord Sackville refused to advance.
