Determined to attack Milan, Venetian forces under Niccolo Sorbolo and Francesco Sforza dragged their ships overland from the Adige to Lake Garda, but were defeated off Maderno by Milanese commander Niccolo Piccinino. However, when Piccinino later narrowly escaped capture, Sforza retook Verona and Venice secured the lake. Piccinino lost the following June at Anghiari.
