Encouraged by victory over the Mongols at the Vozha, Russian Princes under Dimitri of Moscow took a reputed 150,000 men to Kulikovo on the Upper Don. Without his former Lithuanian allies, General Mamai’s Mongol army was destroyed and Dimitri was named <i>"Donskoi."</i> Mamai was soon overthrown at the Kalka and Mongol forces captured Moscow in 1382.
