Russian commander Nikolai Ivanov opened his invasion of Silesia by sending Generals Pavel Plehve and Aleksei Evert to storm the Vistula near Ivangorod. Checked by Count Franz Conrad and Victor Dankl, the Russians were reinforced and attacked again. The Austro-German army was forced back through Radom but checked the Russians in December at Limanowa.
