King Muhammad IX of Muslim Granada was unwisely raiding into Christian Murcia, in southeast Spain, when Castilian General Alfonso Fajardo responded by taking a large army east from his base at Lorca. Muhammad’s army was routed at the nearby village of Alporchones with heavy losses in killed and prisoners. The survivors fled into the Sierra de Almenara.
