Days after his failed attack on Chihuahua, in northern Mexico, Francisco (Pancho) Villa led a brilliant coup north against Ciudad Juárez. Riding a captured train into the city at night, he surprised the Federal garrison and, by morning Ciudad Juárez was in his hands. He then left General Juan Medina in command and marched south towards victory at Tierra Blanca.
