During a fresh invasion of France after victory at Agincourt in 1415, Henry V of England and his brother Thomas Duke of Clarence marched to besiege Caen. Attacking after heavy bombardment, the King’s troops were repulsed, but Clarence succeeded in forcing a breach and the city fell (4 September). The citadel held out for another two weeks before surrendering.
