General Count Wilhelm Fermor led a renewed Russian invasion of East Prussia and advanced towards the Oder to besieged Kostrzyn (Custrin), where Frederick II attacked at nearby Zorndorf. While both sides suffered enormous losses in a bloody action, General Friedrich von Seydlitz’s Prussian cavalry finally won the day and the Russians withdrew to Konigsberg.
